New improved speed cameras.
« on: June 09, 2005, 20:09:12 »
:? Hi all ive just been sent this link from a freind. Makes interesting reading.
Beware if you live in the areas that the cameras are situated, theres no hideing from these. 24hr digital never run out cameras, sen loads going up on the M6 Staffs area...

Personanally i think speed cameras are a good idea, help prevent accidents etc... but after reading this website are there too many going up now and are they just a source of revenue for the police ?.

I dont think cameras work,

if they do why do they need to bother with their little white sneaky-saddo van sitting on a bridge on the a14 catching people as they come up to a fixed camera site?

and another thing, if its done for safety why are these little vans only seeming to be out between the hours of 9-5?

answer = revenue

blah blah ..........

I'd like to know why they don't ask for your MOT/Insurance when you send your licence away. Surely that would catch some offenders.

It's revenue pure and simple - with a dash of political expedience.

they are fitted on several sequences over Woodhead between Manchester and Sheffield and have been there for a couple of years now.

To be honest, if you dont speed, then you have nothing to worry about
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

there are loads of websites available telling you where these cameras are

and as for the comment about the mobile ones in vans.

they go there cos they know people speed (notorious one is on the a449 southbound from monmouth to newport) and so want to catch people

every time i see a van on the same road (not on a bridge above) i see a warning sign up to say there is a van

although the sign is quite near the van anyway so by the time you see it its too late.

We've had the SPECS cameras in Northampton for a while now.  Defo slows people down, especially as they cover an extended stretch of road.

I agree with Robbie, if you ain't speeding then you've got nowt to worry about.  The only people that seem to bemoan cameras are those that want to break the law.
If everybody drove at the limit (perfect world) then there would be no need for the cameras and the cost of maintaining them, or sending the little white van out, would become an overhead to the police and they would be got rid of.
As it is, everybody speeds, and if you get caught, there's no excuse.  And while the debate about the police making money still rages on, those that have been caught were breaking the law.
Funny how no-one moans about the CCTV cameras that are appearing in town centres these days . . . . .

personally i prefer specs to gatso for the same reason said previously

if you think about it you only have to slow down for that 10-20ft of lines on the road for a gatso, whilst hammering the rest,

but with specs you are stuffed.

not that it bothers me much but its not nice about to go through a gatso with an ar*e behind you slamming his anchors on just in time.

fact of the matter is people speed, never mind what people say or think here saying obey the law and what youve to worry about, people do and dont.

you do realise though that with the introduction of car charging and using gps to log your mileage, has anyone stopped and thought that these devices log your speed too

no need for gatso, no need for specs no more, your own car will grass you up.

with the specs system it measures the average speed between 2 points so in theory you can speed within those points as long as you keep your average below the limit.

Ie in a 50 limit (like Northampton Lumbertubs way)  drive half(ish) at 70mph then then rest at 30mph and you be ok.

Now thats what I call safety!
