gear box on a disco
« on: October 12, 2006, 20:38:43 »
i am looking at buying a disco on a 95 plate, have been told its "a little bit notchy going from 2nd to 1st". not sure if this sounds like it needs a new gear box, selector or wot.......... :?  :?  :? has any one got any thoughts if its worth buying or should i stay away????? how much is a gear box likely to set me back????

if it's notchy from 2nd to 1st the chances are it's either the clutch or 1st/2nd gear synchro, though it may just need an oil change, but i doubt it.

a replacement gearbox isn't cheap approx £450 with a warantee though you could chance a second hand box.

there are plenty of other disco's about so you can be choosy depending on your budget..

hope this helps

My 300 doesn't have a notchy gearbox either.
I would either leave alone or get about £1000 off the asking price to cover for a recon box cos that's what it'll cost if you include the fitting!

Here's a link to Ashcrofts site with prices & FAQs.
