I know - it's ridiculous. I now live about 30 miles away from where the last one was stolen, so if they've come back for the replacement, then I'm impressed with their research, especially as the last one was stolen from a garage about a mile away from my house.

Number plate is / was M666MUD

I'll not be needing those wheels now Ian, and the remap's off the cards at the moment :roll:

You really must consider fitting a tracker to the next replacement. £299 fitted at Autotek on St Mary's Gate plus your choice of subscription - £120 pa or £325 for your duration of ownership. It might seem a lot but it proves invaluable for those who have gone through what you have.

Just a thought, but the home alarm systems I install (Rokonet/Gardtek CPX) have wireless support in them. If you have a house alarm system I wonder if a wireless impact sensor on the car would work to trigger the house alarm. Would confuse the hell out of the [!Expletive Deleted!] :).

You really must consider fitting a tracker to the next replacement. £299 fitted at Autotek on St Mary's Gate plus your choice of subscription - £120 pa or £325 for your duration of ownership. It might seem a lot but it proves invaluable for those who have gone through what you have.

This comes up everytime a Defender goes missing and it's simply bad advice. It would take anybody about 1 min to find any tracking device on a Defender and remove it. Especially systems like trackstar that need a celleluar aerial and GPS signal.

The money is better spent on a MeckLock fitted to brakes and clutch where the only viable option is to crane it and low loader it away. This very rarely happens.

Sorry to hear that, but i know how you feel.
We just got our td5 back from the dealers with a complete new lock set because some low life broke into our house and took the spare car key (and had the cheak to return for the car).

Will keep a look out but if i was you i would start with a drive round to see if pikie is about.

Yup - mine had the trackstar on (I can probably tell you that now that it's gone).

Had a tracker on the golf, and they rang me up when it was on the back of a AA lorry telling me it had been moved suspiciously. Now that's good service!

There's not many places they can put them on a defender where the gps antenae is actually accesible. The radio wave tracker's much better, although not necessarily on a defender!

Thats the first person I've heard of to have lost a vehicle with one of those fitted. Is this just down to the design of the defender?, I know someone who got their Disco TD5 back a couple of hours after that was nicked using one of these.

Shame we didn't do it sooner... could have checked out your alarm too (well the LR part of it) - but in all honesty you'll probably find it was a 'professional' gang who took your 90" - so would know how to get around things!!  Did you find any screws or fittings on your drive??

Didn't find anything on the road where it had been parked. Mind you I had a skip next to it which has now been collected, so anything they took off could have gone in there and is now long gone.

I think I'm away when it's old sod. Last time I went, there was not much chance of finding anything as it took so long to get parked up that all the good stuff had gone. I'm sure that there'll be a fair bit of warm kit at old sod - it's inevitable. Just like there is on eBay and (possibly) some of the other Land Rover forums.

I saw an FMJ at Donnington and thought they looked good. Was tempted, and should have given out to temptation, but thought that the security I had was enough for now.

I guess the lesson is - you can never have enough security if they're that interested in taking the vehicle away.

Typically, we've booked on a weekend away in Wales doing some laning in a few weeks (booked ages ago) so I'll have to see what sort of lift and oversize tyres I can get for the vRS. Can you get All Terrains for Skoda Octavias? Shame it's not the 4x4

sorry to hear about your miss fortune. i know this ent much help but the chance is it was stolen to order! most landrovers taken are normaly sold before thay go missing, ie engine,wheels, etc etc and the rest sits and rots away in a small yard somewhere.  
have you had a look around small garage units within a 15 mile radius area to your self if you boarder another county i would start looking there first normaly old airfeild type industrail area's first
and as for trackers personal i wouldn't wast money on them as most need the car wheels to be moveing with normal electrics on and to be honest the electric's are normaly by-past with 4 foot of 6mm wire to get started then removed so the vehical is then tricked, then 2 miles down the road its onto a trailor and away? and thats before you have finnished you call to the tracking company.

Had a subaru nicked and they tracker led them to a shed where the car was parked up.

I've just had a phone call from the Police...

THEY'VE FOUND IT!!!!! :D  :D  :D  :D

Bit of damage where they broke in and disabled the various security devices, but otherwise it's not too bad, apparently.

Not sure when I get it back - they found it only a few hours after it went (although I only got the phone call 10 minutes ago!). It's in storage at the moment going through scenes of crime stuff, and then it'll go to the approved repairer.

Now I just need to re-order all the stuff I cancelled!

Not sure yet - it was found on someone's driveway, so it may have been dumped and reported by the owner of the house.

I've got an idea - the SOCO guy talked me through some of the wires that had been cut through.

The descriptions I have are enough for me to know that I need a different anti-theft set up...

Full Metal Jacket will be on order later today along with some other stuff as well...

Hopefully they're going to be calling me back this afternoon to let me know what's going on.

If you're serious about fitting a tracker, speak to the various companies involved (Tracker, RAC Trackstar etc) and ask them what their recovery rate is like for your specific type of vehicle. It may be that they won't recommend the fitting of particular types to particular vehicles.

I don't want to get into any debates on the benefits of one tracker over another. They all have their good and bad points. For example, the radio based "Tracker" is limited to areas where there is a radio reciever suitable (the tracker device fitted in some police cars), whereas a GPS unit requires line of sight to a satellite. Combination units, of course, get around this.

If I fit another one, it'll be a Tracker Monitor. I had a Golf GT TDi in a previous life which had one on, and was very impressed - they rang me to tell me it was being moved without the keys inthe ignition when it had broken down, and was being transported on the back of a car transporter! I was in the cab of the transporter at the time!

We think we know why the particular unit I had didn't work - it looks like they located it and disabled it. We only know this because the vehicle was recovered. Unfortunately, the disabling was somewhat easier than it would be on any other installation (even in another defender, potentially).

Don't know what the outcome will be yet. It wouldn't stop me fitting this type of unit to another vehicle (for instance, my Octavia) due to the way it would be installed in another vehicle.
