Gordon brown (face like me bum) is very clever at this, his Dept 'leaks' the proposed tax hike on 4x4 as being huge, all the tree huggers rejoice, sian probably goes off for a pint.

Then when the truth comes out, it's all bang G cars that have been hit hard and in truth anybody with a 'new' car.  Given that Co2 emission have been on the log books for 7 years now, so basically it's only cars like ours that are well built enough to still be roadworthy at that age which havn't got clobbered.

In our family, RRR's Mondeo, up a fiver
TDi RRC, a fiver
Blue, a fiver
5.0 LSE, a fiver

Brother in law's Focus, the greenest car we've got, up £15.

Go figure.

I eventually get to own a decent landrover, and now I have to get rid of it.

I cant afford this new tax hike, if I keep it it will be

£205 - 12 months
£112 -  6 months

what a bl***y rip off, its theft, absolute theft

or I do a sorn

But then someone who has just bought a £56k disco or range rover, a £400 road tax hike would mean nothing it would be peanuts to them.

He should have done it by postcodes, and whalloped the 4x4's that are in the citys, we all know the varried terains on school runs and to tesco's can be very gruelling....

"Uh??????"
"Well if you look at what Gordon said he said that the extra tax was being applied to the most enviromently unfriendly cars right?"
"Yessssssss"
"Well it just goes to show you that my landy is as enviromentaly friendly as your car"
"Oh, I suppose it does"

I am anoyed and hacked off, not having a good day at the moment and extremely peeeeed off.

I know about conservation, as I am a Conservation Warden and have been for the last 20 yrs and we are getting whalloped for having a 4x4 and we need the dam things to do our job.

But why are there so many 4x4's in the city doing school runs????

I personally don't see the need ofr 4x4's on school runs, its just a fashion statement, you can even buy spray on mud for chelsea tractors !?

am stopping now before I get carried away,

Its just not fair.

What land rover do you own? I thought the £205 was only for vehicles registered after 2001 which means if you have spent that sort of money you too should be able to afford the road tax just like you say people buying discos n RR   :?

Lifes a bitch and then you die.

I am sure I can find a link somewhere for you to join Sain<sp> Berry's crowd. Sod it, you can find your own link, just google "ban urban 4x4s"

Personaly I am favour of the proposed change to house valuations for the community charge. The one where people who live in the countryside and/or have nice views pay more tax.

The whole thing is just revinue earning. If they wanted to reduce pollution then halve the tax for every five years old the car is. Keeing a car longer, does more for the environment than any CO2 issues.
