Thought you guys might appreciate this. Had to change the rear diff on my 90 and dont have a vehicle lift in the workshop :-k ......So we came up this alternative ....... :D

Workshop sfatey is always paramount, note the Tractor Trailer tyre under the landy.....just incase the forklift fails! :dance:

If that forklift failed the tyre would rip through the alli body & the 90 would probably have fallen on it's side (only one tyre :lol:)

I think I would prop the forks rather than the 90?

I know I wouldn't get under it as is :lol:

its alot more secure than my dads disco was when we put the suspension lift onto it :lol: everytime i got the hammer out it slipped abit more

Now, lifting with the forklift then putting it on axle stands, that'd be fine. But I really wouldn't crawl under there as it is! I'm quite surprised that the forklift didn't do a handstand with the weight of a 90 on it too.

I'd consider it with a telescopic handler with a failsafe (ie designed to be fitted with a working platform, so that the arm locks in the up position) but really wouldn't fancy sticking my head under it otherwise!

Fork Lifts do weigh a fair bit

We have a V10 Touareg at work and it notices (but only just ;)) when it tows our truck (which is often) back in to the yard after a break down

if someone pulled a stunt like that at my place of employ

and WHY do you want to lift a 90 just to change the diff ??
i have replaced umteen diffs over the years and never had to jack a rear up yet !!

The tyre under the side of the landy is more of a joke for the photo, the fork lift has a sudden drop fail-safe built into it.....we did check that was definatly working before we got under it! :lol:

I've a Jackall "Jack Safe" which is similar - ie like a mini fork lift.
It's supposed to be operated by a Jackall or HiLift but I hate the nasty things after loosing a big chunk off the end of one finger so simply use a big bottle jack instead.
The uprights are the same beams as a Jackall so you can manually lift / click to just under the bumper or rear crossmember and then use the bottle jack to then lift wheels off the ground.
Very secure unfortunantley I don't think they make them any more so glad I've got mine.

as bad of an idea as anyone air jacks inflated by the exhuasts. use a proper strong jack and hd axle stands :boohoo: ](*,) :help: :pale:

Nothing wrong with an air jack, just so long as you accept that it's only a tool for lifting vehicles and shouldn't be used as a substitute for axle stands.

I didnt even see the forklift at first and even when I saw you mention it I found it hard to see the prongs. I thought you had just reversed the landy over the tyre.

Either way. Stupid idea I'm afraid.

I'd have just picked up the motor front then rear and put a super single wheel under each landy wheel then lowered it on to them, plenty of clearance and wont roll anywhere as the wheels would be in the steel wells

I would work under that. as long as it cant roll forward your ok, i would be a lot happyer with a forklift at either end. But if it did fall and kill ya you would look a bit of an idiot.

Once saw a guy get flattaned by some plaster board he had propped up like that in a builder yard he did'nt live and it made a terrible mess on the floor.
I think the picture was only a bit of fun guys surely he would'nt have worked under that ,would he?

Yeah plaster is a sod to clean off the floor.

If the front end of the landy was up against a wall and assuming that the forks are spread between the chassis rails preventing any sideways motion then it cant fall off and a forklift is a lot safer than a hydraulic jack, although if it was only a little forklift them a 2t landy might not be advisable.
