Did you use existing bearings again or new? If new the TD5 system needs you to fit correct shims to take out end play and then torque (new) nut to 210Nm. If old bearings then existing shims should have been fine and torquing to 210Nm should have taken any play out. Did you use a new nut?

You can always change it back to old two nut and locking washer method if you want.

Cheers

Yes and you may have now knackered new bearings. Best thing to do is replace with new bearings again and either use new method and spacers or revert back to old method.

td5 manual says

1, clean stub axle and drive shaft and fit hub assembly to axle.
2, fit spacing washer.
3, fit hub adjusting nut. tighten to 50 nm (37lbf/ft). ensure hub is free to rotate with no bearing play.
4, back off adjusting nut 90 degree and tighten to 10nm(7lbf/ft).
5, fit new lock washer.
6, fit locknut. tighten to 50nm(37lbf/ft).
7, tab over lock washer to secure adjusting nut and locknut.
8, fit a new joint washer to driving member and fit member to hub. tighten bolts to 65nm(48lbf/ft.
9, fit original drive shaft shim and secure with a circlip.

so to answer your question yes the setting are important and other than a torque wrench you will need a degree gage which you can get from any halfords store for not very much. they are about the same size as a c.d with lots of setting marks on hope this helps you  ;)
