Reluctantly ..... a plug for my art .... taking orders now!
« on: September 27, 2006, 12:12:20 »
After a lot of persuading late last night from my young man BeJay, and Tim M's encouragement in a previous thread, I have decided to 'plug' my pictures.

These three were in that previous thread .....

And these are some I have done for BeJay ....

(click on each image to get a bigger version)

I'm very happy to do this for anyone who would like a picture  ... now, me being me, I would do this for nothing ... BUT it has been suggested I should charge something to cover my costs ... paint, posting etc .... and this is the bit where I throw my hands up in the air and say "AAARRRGGGHH!!" cos I really cannot put a price on my art work.

SOOOO before I start getting requests, I would like some feedback to this idea .....

Donations .... that way I wouldn't feel uncomfortable in asking for your hard earned beer tokens.  It'll be a case of pay what you think it's worth.

SO whaddya think??? :)

Look really good, peopel must be prepared to pay £20+ for those when they are personal to their own vehicles.

You could set up a stand at some of the shows if you can bang em out at a reasonable speed!

So how do you "work" - do you just work from photos or do you need/prefer to see the car in "person"?

What physical size are they?

Nice work, as has already been mentioned - do you/can you work from photos or do you like to have a 'sitting' with the actual vehicle.

I'd certainly pay for work like this.

I'll have one of the 101 please!  Do I have to pay extra for the size of vehicle? :)

Once you know what sort of money you're looking for, please let us all know.  It's really a question of what you're happy with.

Quietsleeper,

They are pretty good, pricing would depend on you I think.  One avenue to costing would be cost of materials + an hourly rate (your discretion).  I would say that if you are looking at making something of them (a few beer tokens for yourself), then don't start off by charging too little.

Ultimately your prices should reflect demand.

You could always use Mud club to guage interest by offering members discounted rates.

Not that you need to though!
Snezza69

I wish this project would just hurry up and finish!

But I don't think it will if I keep making simple mistakes

Best way to work out a price, is to work out how many hours it takes you. I've spent years doing a similar exercise with my mum and it's only now a shop has got involved that she's learning the true value.

As an "Amature", you should be lookint ~£45 for an A4 sized Pic.
Once you have your name about, then £65 (A4) - £120 (A3) is not uncommon as you start and doubling that as you move forwards.

Of course, the Pro's cost a fortune!

If you're doing them for £30 or less, I'll have one done please. (My mum only does wildlife)

Hi and a big big thanks to you all :D  :D  :D I have to admit I'm very overwhelmed by all your comments

Sorry I haven't got back sooner been spending two days with my architect head on trying to please the local plannng department       buuuut that's totally OT for this thread!

So many questions ... I'll try my best now to answer them all

Gords, Jimbo & Metalkoi ...   I don't need to do 'sittings' with the vehicles, all I require is a good quality picture (hi-res) sent to me via email.
I normally use A4 as it's easily posted (the bigger pics seem to get bent and roughed up in transit   :x )

I do do bigger pics ... the smallest of the three here is the A4

G-mod, Casey12 & Skip ...   I can do any vehicle... I don't just do Landies, I did a charcoal drawing of BeJay's Humber Sceptre

Thermidor ...          I would love to do a pic of your 101, and no I wouldn't charge extra!!!

Blackbob & Barmiebrumie ...    :( sadly no Brighton for us this weekend, we're winching and recovering on Saturday followed by a drink out and Sunday we'll just be recovering

Sharpshooter ...     WOW    that acrylic is fantastic!

Tiltboy ...   I have paintshop on my puter that does the same ... IMHO I find printing those on gloss paper really tacky though :?

Techno Turkey & Evil Ed ...   firstly Evil Ed      OMG HOW MUCH??? £45's a bit too much even though I'm an amat.... err not a professional!!  Techno Turkey suggested £20+ .... weeeelllll I've been pondering over £25 and still feel uncomfortable .... so I've gorn for a round £22 for the A4 ... any other size a price can be discussed I guess.

Seeing as I've never done painting like it's work before, I'm going to limit myself to 25 orders to start with ... I don't want to over do it to start with, it'll be on a first come first served basis ..... those that have posted before me here who still want a piccie will be in that 25 .... if the work load don't freak me out too much and I seem to be coping ok I'll post again to let you know I can manage more orders.

So, there we go ... A4 size picture of a vehicle for £22. Does that sound good to you lot?? Any one who's interested please PM me and I'll pass on my email addy.

*Tick* but can I send you a Pic once I have the latest toys   fitted :) (should be next week)

Don't sell yourself short. A lot of people underestimate how much work can go into these things. At least you're not trying to get them framed etc for that price.... (costs ~£30 - £60 for a good framer with "Mount and Taped")

How much will postage be for a decent Envelope and now you can't post anything bigger than a stamp for the old First class post price

the pics I have sent to Hissy and Landroverkeith were both £1.12 to send, that was first class with signed receipt (so I know it go there ok) for a padded envelope with added stiff card for extra protection.
