You didn't say what year your is or what mileage.Diesels hold a premium but I know exactly where you are coming from, especially if you are towing. My LSE will do 9 to the gallon.Thing is whilst prices of some 4x4 are dropping the Defender will be the one to beat the trend and you always pay on condition rather than age. You'll pay for a diesel Disco/RRC too.As an example I know of a 200TDi conversion into a RRC turbo diesel. Mint engine mind you but it's up at around £2k. If you tradeed yours against it you'd be lucky to come out with cash in your hand, so You need to look privately.
I should also point ouot to anyone who is towing for their business that the law requires a tachograph to be fitted to any comercial outfit exceeding 3.5 tonnes.BTW it's based on MAM, not what's actually there.

(they cost about £45 each and last for about 5 years me thinks.) also dont forget even if your not towing then it is still recording your speed so if you get pulled over the lovely police person can use the tacho as evidence if they stop you with you driving! All very crafty to do you for speeding 11 months after you have actualy been speeding!!!! (example) your tacho shows speeds of 65-70mph. on a tacho most you can do anywhere is 60mph. Your nicked mate!!)
if it is just the landy then you will be fine. no tacho needed but digital tachos record and show an error message of no card inserted so if you were to do 110mph the tacho will record it. only good thing is it cant record a name to the driver. obviously if you get pulled over and the police download data and you have been driving non stop for 2hours it is clear on who was driving. You were!!If you have for argument sake a 3.5 tonne van with a 2.8 tonne box trailer and fill both van and trailer with feathers you will still need a tacho as the combined maximum weight the van and trailer can maximum have is over 3.5tonnes. even if you tow the trailer empty and the van empty the max you "could" have is again over 3.5 tonnes.Get where I am kind of coming from? With my voluntary work we are having a nightmare with all this working out the rules etc etc. I am just coming to grips now on how to get my card back out the machine!!!
