Ok today saw me take delivery of my brand spanking new Superwinch EP9.5i..............and what a stunning lump of kit it is (I hope it winches as well as it looks!!!)..........anyway.....piece of cake to fit, it's only four bolts, but obviously its also a piece of cake to remove, and you can guarantee it'll be a scrote that'll try!!! So, not really wanting to weld the nuts, does anyone have any suggestions for making it more difficult to remove??

I have absolutely no idea what size thread is used, I don't own a winch ( :( ), and have never fitted one. So I'm hardly an expert, but: Can locking wheel nuts somehow be utilised?

Doesn't matter ho difficult you make it to get off a gas axe will still manage it :lol:

mine is buried deep in the front of the car as are many - just undoing 4 bolts is not going to free it

If you weld the bolts, they will only nick the winch bumper it is in, if you weld the winch bumper bolts they will just nick the car.

Easiest way - get a large dog!

If it's your car you can use the angry grinder, just that you can't remove them at the side of the road.

Personally my winch is removable, now I'm after a new front bumper to make it stronger.

An old tip was to use a short length of strong tubing (with a suitable washer brazed/welded in the end to form a cap with a hole in it

Then a hole was drilled in the side. After fitting, a pop-rivet was applied.
Okay, it will not stop the serious thief, but the opportunist won't be able to get a socket on it.

if you go down to your local nut and bolt shop they should be able to sell you shear nuts. when you tighten them up the hex head shears off just leaving a conical collar. Again its a case of chiseling them off if you want to remove them though. when i fitted mine i just replaced the winch bolts and the bumper bolts with ones an inch longer, tightened them up as normal and then welded the end 10mm of the bolts so if i need to get them off i can cut 10mm away from the bottom of the bumper/ chassis leg and dont damage anything. means little scrote can loosen the winch or bumper but cant nick it! also bought a stoplock as anything with a winch bumper on it is a prime target for ram raider scrote.

OEC 4x4 do a product called nogo enclosures,with these you stick the bolt through the hole bolt it back in and whack a cover over the nut.

to get them off you have to angle grind them off, a pain but you can also stick some on your bumper to stop them taking that as well.

about Â£10 - Â£15 for five.

they will be at billing or go to their web page and look under security fasteners.

pass the hook off your winch through your letter box and hook it round your leg

There are cups you pass the bolt through then when they are tight you wack a plug into the end giving nothing to grip onto when you want them off you hold the cup with mole grips and drill out the plug . 8)

Just had a thought go to your local engineers and get the right size bolts in a left hand thread the average thief will be there all night making sure the things are tight for you ...:lol: :lol:

I just replaced one of my 17mm headed bolts with an external torx one, admittedly if you had the correct socket you could undo it easily but not many people would think of carrying one around when nicking a winch.

the onlt prblem with these is you can fit a 12 sided socket on these and they work like a normal Bolt

paddocks do a winch bolt set the bolts are dome shape with counter sunk holes very much like alloy wheel nut lockers only smaller for winches
