Advice needed....
« on: August 18, 2007, 18:22:14 »
hey all. got a problem and not sure what i can do about it.

i have the option of parking in front of a garage thats not used (again im not allowed to use the garage but am allowed to park in front of it) only issue with that is some chap who is clearing his garden out build bonfires up to four feet wide and three feet hight to burn the dead wood coming out of his garden instaed of going down the tip and therefore im unable to park there. My querey is this is a private road and the council say he not breaking the law buring the wood there but its really annoying most of us as it means we have no rear access and we have all spoken to this chap and he just tells us to clear off. now in the dry these fires get pritty big as you can imagine and almost to the point where i would call the firebrigade out + the smoke is untrue and if the winds blowing in our direction ........ worse still i have my old omega parked very close by still with 1/4 tank of petrol and obviously you can see where that going to go and as the engine is screwed it cannot be moved due to this big fire blocking the exit..

Is there anyone on here with any knowledge that would help as to stopping this guy from building these fires. its really getting annoying and i would like to remove the omega and start parking my landy there instead.

rant and winge over.

thanks in advance.

Ok, to start with it falls lightly in the remit "Anti social Behaviour" Especially if all you neighbours are suffering too, so I would talk to your local Police Beat team, it will get put through to the CBM (community beat manager) and the PCSO to have a word with him.

I would also speak environmental health and see what they have to say.

If it is a bit big you can call out the fire brigade, especially if your old car accidentally    catches fire  you never know he could get in trouble.

Failing that hose him down next time he is smoking you out!

If there's a permissive right of way to access the garage then he is blocking that right of way and you could take action (abate the obstruction) or get the council to do it and warn him about blocking a right of way.

Environmental health is deffo your best bet - ring them next time he has a fire and they HAVE to come and pay a visit
Especially if there is a lot of smoke or fumes

If you can get hold of some C4, bung that in and that would stop his nuisance bonfires!
Not strictly legal I know, but it works, aparently.
Failing that, is he within 50 feet of a public highway? If so, an offence.
Public nuisance sounds the best course of action. Speak to the local bobby, sorry I mean PCSO/Community warden, and get a warning shoved in.

Sorry go for my first approach then use The dance of fiery arse. Tie legs together hands to front and lit paper up "use imagination family forum" then tell him to get to the bucket of water placed at the end of the drive.

Come on people

Don't do guns and things that go bang you'll scare the children and the pets next door. Then where would you be getting a PSCOBAD Squad or  ASBO or CTMB thingy.

Steady Highlander or I might get upset

However I agree with LSP C4 would sort it out however its likely to lead to several arrests.

Also a good thing is to keep a diary and any photographic evidence of these bonfires,I have complained about a neighbour doing a similar thing, and the enviromental health asked me to do this.

I have a rechargable large fire extinguisher + compressor to recharge it. Sure it probobly wont put it out but a good few litres of foam will express your dicontent, specially if you miss.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Jamie,

Another route that is well worth a try is to contact Hampshire Fire & Rescue, it's surprising the pressure they can bring to bear as they are committed to decreasing the incidence of of non-accidental fires (arson!), and would view the regular building of large bonfires as being the creation of potential fire risks, especially if they have the potential to be hazardous to life of property.

Give it a try - contact the Station Manager at Gosport!!!!

Cheers

Of course if your Omega were to catch fire...........

I agree with Wanderer, you need to check whether or not you have any right of access accross the land, if you do then it needs enforcing.
