Now then ive loved my disco from the moment the guy took my money and ran off sniggering....

But at this moment in time its really really starting to get right on my very very very lastttttt nerve

few weeks ago heard a rumbling noise from the drivers wheel... knew what it was as ive had this noise 3 times before.... wheel bearing

luckly enough i had over ordered on a bearing kit b4 so i knew i had spares and big rich was very very kind and came around to my house to fix it for me i did do a few bits ... not much but i did some anyway after many hugs and kissess to rich we got it done in time b4 i had to goto work.

I Pulled off the drive and Popp something wasnt right no power and a very funny noise from that big pile of  rubbish under the bonnet

cam belt.... 5 stripped teeth   new belt new tensor thingys etc but no real damage so far apart to my wallet "oh what a shock"

since picking it up friday its done about 40 miles give or take i suppose
and what do i hear today???    grrrrrrrr sumthing is still grinding and chattering away arghhhh what now????? ive replaced all the wheel bearings now with the other 3 being done within weeks of each other less then 3 years ago? surely they should last longer than that?

ooo lots of steam coming from my ears now hope no one crosses me at work tonight cos i think ill give em the landrovering lot

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Touch wood, nothing fallen off (yet) only problem I've had in three years is collapsed turbo hose :D

TD5 German???? I thought TD storm range of engines were developed by land rover and TD4 and TD6 (Freelander and range rover engines) were ditched by the germans 'coz they had there own 4 and 6 cyl versions. TD5 survived coz a 6 wouldn't fit engine bay of Disco 2  :?
Disco TD5 ES.
Two inch lift. Air spring spacers’ rear and scrap iron racing spring’s front.
OME +2inch dampers
ARB front winch bumper (also known as the plough!!!)
Southdown steering guard
QT heavy duty track rod and drag link. OME steering damper.
QT front and rear diff guards
Southdown tank guard with demountable towing system and recovery points.
Devon 4x4 D44 side exit exhaust and D44 HD rear bumper
Partial camel cut
Ditched the 18 inch AT2's for 265/75 16 BFG MT
D44 light bar with 4x piaa spots
Bi xenon headlight conversion and xenon spots mounted on ARB
Engine work giving around 210bhp, if I can't get over it, I push through!

How you treating the truck though!

If your wading and stuff then you should be pulling your bearings out every couple of months and repacking them with grease, think of the mechanics of it, rotating parts, your never going to get a perfect seal. On the front they have a drive flange gasket one side and a rubber seal the other.

Landys are simple to work on in terms of maintinance, grease the props, pack the bearings and drop the fluids often and you wont have a problem.

If you aint treating your truck like that then the bearings are not being fitted correctly.

£150 worh of tools and a haynes manual would probably help out.

That is so true. I,ve replaced four bearings on mine all after going wading in mudholes .And three times I,ve had to replace stubaxles as the bearing has welded itself to the stub.Running Mud tyres stops you hearing any noises so its always too late when you realise. Mine did it again Saturday morning in Berwick upon Tweed . I live in Oldham 200 miles away.£102 train fair for me and my mate ,£60 in diesel for his Landcruiser to get us back up there, £40 to the guy who ran us for parts and let us use his garage.Dragging another mate down to pick us up from Piccadilly and take us to a garage who stayed around till 9.00pm to wait for us to collect a stub axle.
